CPAP Therapy
In CPAP therapy (CPAP = Continuous Positive Airway Pressure), continuous positive pressure is applied to the patient's airways throughout the night by means of a therapy device (e.g., Weinmann's SOMNOsoft 2) and mask. The main attribute of CPAP therapy is pressure constancy while the patient is breathing spontaneously. CPAP therapy holds open the airways with a pneumatic splint to prevent them from collapsing. It is used primarily for treatment of obstructive sleep apnea and also for mild cases of Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome (OHS) and pulmonary edema.
